A great article from a director at a local library. Dr. Sarah Werner goes into how a book can tell its own history better than a scan. 3D scanning is making it more possible, but currently nothing beats having the book to look at yourself.

My favorite childhood book. I slept with it when I was three years old. My mom still has it, taped up cover and all. According to Wikipedia, Millions of Cats is the oldest American picture book still in print.

How much more mainstream can you get than that? It’s on the shelves at Kmart and Target and Kroger, as well as bookstores. I may not be a patron of the IMCPL anymore, but I am still proud of my hometown library. I am not a fan of the Fifty Shades phenomena. However, avid readers should have the right to make reading choices on their own.

He died to today at the age of 83. Having owned several of his books a young, avid reader, I have always appreciated the candor in his stories.

This is a great op/ed piece from Library Journal regarding the cuts to higher education and how making students pay for “extra” services could possibly even come down to the library level. Pay to use the computer? Pay for every book checked out after 5 books?

As someone starting graduate school this fall with a husband getting his own graduate degree in economics, it certainly makes me wonder how soon until colleges like mine own start adopting the airplane baggage method.

The goal of CISPA is to completely eliminate any sort of privacy online. It really is a Big Brother bill, and that isn’t hyperbole.

CISPA is orders of magnitude worse than SOPA/PIPA. We need to mobilize like we did before, and stop this.
